Prince George City Council will be asked to take another step that will move towards the closure of the Goodtime Bingo Hall and the establishment of a “Gaming Centre”, complete with  100 slot machines.   The matter before Council this evening asks for the approval of a resolution supporting the move, provided an associated bylaw is passed.  This approval would set the stage for a public hearing on the matter.
There will be a public hearing to appeal a decision by the Development and Planning Department which denied a business license to Lil’ Kids Paradise Play Centre.
Also up for discussion, some details on the Mayor’s Committee on Youth.  The Committee has a chairperson and some terms of reference.
Here are a couple of rezoning applications on the agenda.  One asks for a re-zoning of property on Queensway for the expansion of R.V. sales.  The Planning department wants that one rejected.  Another asks for a rezone of property on the corner of Chief Lake road and Highway 97 to allow for a service station and future restaurant. The Planning department says that one should be approved.
Council will also take a look at what  progress the City is making in  moving away from the use of chemicals in controlling weeds.

Weird - gambling is OK, but nothing for the kids?
I have no doubt that the "Gaming Center" will pass.
Too much money for the city purse, to say no!
Gaming Centre needs a public hearing along the way. So, let us see how many in the community are opposed ot it and how many will show up when the time comes for the hearing.

Anyone starting a petition yet? I doubt it. Lots of complaining in this town and little gets done on issues like that.

Hey, winter is apporaching and those two condo projects should be gettign into the ground soon. There was the Victoria and Seventh one which was so popular that they have to build it with two more storeys on it. *LOL* yeah. They're getting on it right away.

The the other one. So few units that they should have been sold by now if he had had a booth at the farmer's market.
;-)
C'mon owl, enough is enough-and I do detect a note of sarcasm in your comments.
Might I add to them?
Forget the public hearing!
Get that damn thing built while there is still some labor available in this city.
Then let the public rid themselves of their purchasing power in those slots.
Then we can see crime on the increase, and at least those pawn shops and second hand stores will get some additional business.
The soup kitchens will pick up considerably.
Might even have to add to the police force-as I can see the Sep't in front of council pleading for more officers. Well, that creates employment also-does it not?
Sure, the kids won't get the new winter coats and boots, and mom can forget that new microwave, and the old man can go back to a push mower, Now no animals will get spayed or neutered,(no money for that), so we are the killing capital in B C for unwanted animals-so a bit more notoriety there to put us on the map. Hey, I could go on endlessly.
Those condos will be rented out by the night-for all the travellers hitting the Vegas of B C right here in good old Prince George. Get that damn runway built for those big jets, so we can really haul in the big wheels.
Prince George is on the move-so get on with it.
Who needs to waste time with any public hearing?
Time to get the show on the road.
I just hope the Mayor and Council do not back down on this project.
We will finally hit the "BIG TIME."
Besides they might all get to be shareholders.
Kind of heart warming-to say the least.
in that respect,
Not Sep't, but Sup't.
See what happens when a person gets over excited about a project to be voted on at City Hall!
Oh Joy! it will be such fun!
I also find it interesting that the one group (Community Planning Council) that came out publicly against the gaming centre is the very same group that has just had all its funding pulled by council - coincidence?
Perhaps Mr. P.G. should have one of its arms removed so it can represent a one-armed-bandit, the new mascot of Vegas North.

pretty harsh there diplomat. But I hear you. Me thinks that this is going to be a hot bed of contention for a long time to come.
Big jump from 50 slots as originally proposed to 100 slots.

There are a number of people who receive welfare from the BC Government, and then spend this money, on Cigarettes, Booze, and Gambling, then they go to St Vincents, the Salvation Army, or some such place to get food, or they would starve to death.

Giving them food to survive is not a bad thing, however it also enables them to continue to Drink, Smoke, and Gamble. The really sad part is that the Governments that give them this money as welfare takes it back through their Gambling outlets, and through taxation on Cigarettes, and Booze, so the end result it the Government gets its welfare money back, and the local Citzens through donations keep the food lines going.

Anything wrong with this picture???
Gov't doesn't seem to think so...
lets see what our wonderful city has to say.....
I say they will pass it!
I wonder if the new gaming centre will have a big gravel pit hole next to it as well for campers to park overnight.

How long is it going to take for the City or the Treasure Cove to fix up that corner properly? It is a disgrace.
So it's a disgrace?
So it is making lots of money?
So the city will have to perform the beautifying-contractors are too busy right now!
Of course there will not be a gravel pit next to the gaming center!
I am suggesting they place a decent "brothel" next to it, with all the proper amenities.
If you want to make the big bucks, you have to step up to the plate.
Gambling, booze and sex-now they are in business!
Don't knock it until you tried it.
Support your community!
Oh, damn, I left the drug bit out!
I assume the addicts deserve honorable mention-as they are such a great drain on society-both policing, needle exchanges, healthwise-and many being unemployable-so welfare bums.
It totally escapes my mind that there is one segment that makes money-the pushers.
Even the cops stay rather quiet as when they bust pushers, their names are NEVER published.
Has anyone ever wondered why???
