Applications In for Air Quality Committee

The  Prince George Air Quality Implementation Committee has received  10 applications from members of the public wanting to be chosen for one of two available seats on the Committee.  The group already  has representatives from local and provincial government, health organizations,  First Nations, the university  and local industry.

Jocelyn White at Prince George City Hall says she will call for a meeting of the Air Quality Sub-Committee to review the applications and make reccomendations to the full Committee.  A final decision on who will be asked to join the Committee isn't expected until late September.

The Prince George Air Quality  Implementation Committee is responsible for monitoring and reporting on the progress of the 28 reommendations in the Prince George Air Quality Management Plan .

Phase 2 recommendations  are expected to be ready this fall and will focus on issues of quality of life,  local health effects and climate change. Phase three will  deal with sources of particulates.

Has any one read that Air Quality Management Plan ? It is was authored in 1998, based largely on data from 1996. Well things have changed dramatically since then and I am sure glad that city hall has made this such a priority over the years !

Come on now people, pick up the pace and make PG air such that I am not up at 5 am in the morning barely able to breath !
Not only that, but there was a progress report in 2004 I think. So that is 6 years later. Where I come from such reviews are done yearly on action plans.

Simply put, they are not really accountable to anyone.
