The recent wam, dry trend has increased the fire danger rating in the Prince George Fire Centre, says Fire Information Officer Barb Durau. Crews have responded to 25 new fires in the past week . The fires range in size from under one hectare to about 44 hectares. Twenty of the fires were caused by human activity; the remaining four were caused by lightening. Twelve of the fires have been extinguished and six are being actioned by initial attack teams and unit crews. A further six fires are being monitored and one fire has been turned over to industry. The largest fire, 44 hectares in size, is about 92 kilometres northeast of Mackenzie. It was human-caused and currently has 36 firefighters on site performing mop-up activities. The second-largest fire is about 12 hectares in size and is located 151 kilometres southeast of McBride. It was caused by lightening, and 3 helicopters and 22 firefighters are working at the site. There have been 521 fires so far this year in the Prince George Fire Centre, which burned 80,533 hectares. In the immediate Prince George Zone, there have been 108 fires and 3,557 hectares burnt.
