The Cops for Cancer riders will be given a grand send off later this morning.

23 police officers and one civilian Doctor are taking part in the week long bike ride from Prince George to Prince Rupert.  That's 826 kilometers of peddling!

Everyone is welcome to attend the event which gets underway this morning at 8 with a  pancake breakfast at the ReMax Realty offices on 15th Avenue in Prince George.

The riders will arrive on the scene around 9,  then, after a  few fundraising headshaves, the helmets will be back on and the  riders will start their trek to Rupert at about 10 a.m.

This Cops for Cancer Tour de North is one of four Cops for Cancer tours being launched in B.C. today.

Last year, the B.C. tours raised more than  $2.8 million dollars to fund pediatric cancer research and Canadian Cancer Society programs that help children with cancer and their families.

I hear the BC Hydro employee charitable organization Hydrecs was a big sponsor this year. Good for them and the overall Cops for Cancer people.
Thank you to the folks at Remax who have been very involved in the Cops for Cancer fundraiser events.

A few weeks ago, they were involved in helping organize and sponsor the Mayor's First Annual Lawn Bowling Tournament Fundraiser for Cops for Cancer. I heard that the Remax goal for this year is around $30,000. Great community support. Chester
