B.C.'s Mines Minister Bill Bennett says the Province has not overspent its commitment to the 2010 Olympics.

Bennett, who also sits on the Treasury Board says the $775 million for the Sea to Sky highway included in theAuditor General's report released today is not part of the Olympic expense.

When asked if it was included in the original estimates the Minister said, “No it was not included and the province is on budget to what we said we would be spending on the games. "

The Minister is in Prince Goegre today attending the Northern Economic Forum which was not open to the general public.

The Auditor General released his report on the Olympics today saying that the cost to the province for the 2010 is now $1.5 billion dollars, that amount includes the $775 million to be spent on the Sea to Sky Highway.

If the reason the Sea to Sky Highway is being upgraded is the Olympics, then it certainly is an Olympic cost (in both senses), in the same way as the refurbishment and improvements to the Ferry terminals and road access was a Fast Cat cost and included in the final figures.

Even if the $775 million for the highway is excluded, though, it still means the Liberals have gone over budget by $125 million at least, with much more to come.
Within budget-and be damned!
The end figure will astound the voting public.
What else can they say at this point?
The anger can come after the games!
Some things they have to save for a later date-when the heat will be unavoidable, but the taxpayers will be counted on to pay the bills.
Overspending-we have years of it to come-this is only 2006!
They are already squirming, and lieing!
