CN is trying to pinpoint the cause of a 14 car derailment south of Prince George.

14 empty lumber cars jumped the tracks near Quesnel around 2 this afternoon.  No one hurt, and there were no chemicals or dangerous substances involved.

Still, the derailment is having an impact, as southbound rail traffic is on hold until the line can be cleared.

Wooden railroad ties are a fixture of the 19th and 20th centuries. Modern railroads use heavy duty steel re-inforced concrete ties. They drastically cut down on the number of derailments.

BCRail/CN tried/tries to run a railroad using outdated technology and equipment.
Time to change over to mag-lev. It can go along with the four laning of the highway to Vancouver as a 100 year project.

;-)
It is only a matter of time until these "efficiency experts" cause a huge crisis of poisoning and the evacuation of entire villages. Funny how this didn't seem to happen nearly as often when B.C.Rail was owned by the people. C.N.'s safety record was well known before the sale and yet again we see that the B.C.liberals refusal to listen to those who actually understand what is going on has yet again proven their arrogence is nothing more than misguided ignorance. But it's o.k. remember it was not a sale only a bizzillion year lease so one day we can get our stolen assets back.
Problem is C.N. could care less...I think they should be fined and half the money to the provincial coffers, and the other half to the nearest community every time a derailment happens....say $100,000,000 per car that leaves the tracks....soon C.N. would stop having wrecks.
I'm with Marty on this one. It is absolutely ridiculous that CN Has the gaul to say that throughout the entire CN span they have fewer derailments overall. Meanwhile I can't for the life of me remembering so many derailments. This is insane. What is it going to take? My guess is a derailment in the municipality of West Vancouver would turn things around.
But this is ok as no one was hurt and n harm was done to the environment...
isn't this the same story that CN has been spouting for all of these derailments....
What is is going to take before and investigation is lauched?
