Vanderhoof Mayor Len Fox says he was saddened by the death of two pilots in the recent Moose Jaw air show. He said “I know how the community feels, given the fact that we had a similar instance in Vanderhoof where a young man died flying the worlds smallest jet.”

At the same time, Fox said the community has no immediate plans to resurrect the Vanderhoof Air show that was popular for many years.
Fox says “We had gone broke with the show two years before Prince George tried their hand at it with about the same success. It was costing us $150,000 dollars a year to put on the show, it simply out grew us.” Fox  says "had we stayed with our original show of just showing war planes and maybe the odd show with a guy like Bud Grandly, we might still be operating"

While the US war planes supplied their own fuel, that was not the same in all cases. If you consider that there are over 350,000 people in the north, the Mayor said “You would think that we could draw more than 5% of the population but we couldn’t and that’s what killed us.”

Have they had a second look? Fox says “Yes we have, but the question of the economics of the deal always comes up and that’s where it ends.”

The Vanderhoof Air show was a highlight of the summer season in the region for many years.
