The  person who will co-ordinate the implementation of the reccommendations from the Highway of Tears  Symposium could be named  by the end of this week.

Carrier Sekani Family Services spokesperson, Mary Teegee, says they have gone through about 30 resumes of qualified applicants and are into the interview process now.    A final decision on who will be chosen for the post is expected as early as tomorrow.

Since the report  was released (see previous story) Carrier Sekani Family Services was selected to implement the more than 50 reccomendations as prepared by the Lheidli T'enneh Band.  The report is aimed at improving safety along the Highway 16 corridor between Prince George and Prince Rupert.

Since 1990 nine young women have disappeared or been murdered along that strech of highway.  All but one were First Nations.

The Co-ordinator's salary will be covered by some of the $50 thousand dollars in funding provided by the Solicitor General's Ministry and the Ministry of Children and Families.

The Solicitor General's Ministry has also been working towards developing a complete inventory of programs already available that might be useful in addressing concerns including victim services, transportation and communication issues.

Sheeeeit! Is it too late to send in my resume. I hope not?
What the heck is this co-ordinator going to actualy do?
Where does the Ministry of the Solicitor General have the right to dish out $60,000.00 for this enterprising group who believe they can "improve safety" on about 460 miles of highway?
I do believe Spanky should apply.
Just the intelligence they need to be successful-but I cannot figure out at what, but then neither would he be able to.
Some parents must actually spank their kids on the head-eventually knocking their brains out.
We now have proof!
This is not meant to be rude, as i feel for those who have lost loved ones.
But in the past 16 years, only 9 have gone missing from PG to Rupert...that is about 750 kms or HWY.
So how does 1 person, or small group, really make a road that lenght any safer than it is.
That is almost 2 years between incidents.
If it was a daily, weekly, or heck even monthly occurence, you might find the person, or persons resposible....but every 2 years this person strikes, along a very remote and lengthy HWY.
Its worse than the needle in a haystack scenario.

Maybe teach people to not hitch hike, or at least not alone...that will do more than anything IMHO.
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit! Trusted, I thought we was buds. I guess not.
