Some travelers planning to fly between Prince George and Vancouver this morning had their travels delayed after two WestJet flights were cancelled. The two flights, one originating in Vancouver, and one from Prince George, are believed to have been cancelled because of a mechanical problem, says Becky Madore of Uniglobe Sunburst Travel.

Only one airplane was involved in the two cancellations. “It was a turnaround flight,” says Madore.

The cancelled flights were Flight 11, leaving Vancouver for Prince George at 8:45 this morning and Flight 208, which was to leave Prince George for Vancouver at 10:25 a.m.

Wesjet better get its act to-gether lest it become another Air Canada.
Sheeeeeeit! I bet there was a lot of money spent at those pubs in the airports. Some serious poundin o the suds. Somebody got on the plane all buggered up at 3:45 or whenever it was. Wish it was me. Sheeeeeeeeit! Missed out again.
And they wonder why more people are choosing other means to get from here to where ever...
"Wesjet better get its act to-gether lest it become another Air Canada."

Do you like getting on broken airplanes?? I haven't seen any stories about WestJet mechanics claiming that the companies maintenance is shoddy. Can't say the same for Air Canada.

I applaude WestJet for making the choice to cancell flights due to mechanical reasons. It costs them money to do it, nevermind the backlash from the media making a big deal about it. It's the right thing to do and the main reason that I feel safe flying with them.
I dont disagree with you g.p. The problem is the flight that they cancelled was Vancouver to Prince George and vice versa. You can rest assured that they did not cancel other more profitable and competative flights out of Vancouver. In my opinion they canceled the Prince George flight because they could get away with it. After all we are in the **boonies**.
Of course they will cancell the flight that affects the least guests. What good would it have done if they got you to Vancouver just to have your conecting flight cancelled? Then it would not only affect the PG guests, but all of the other connecting guests as well.

I wouldn't doubt that flight loads and profit played a part as well. It is a business after all. I have no idea what your flight loads are like in PG, but here in Grande Prairie (another end of the line, "boonies" destination for westJet) we have lost daily flights more than once due to poor loads. It's no secret that WestJet's policy is "use us or loose us". You are right in saying that if your run was more profitable than another it probably wouldn't have been cancelled. That's business and the reason that they are doing better than their competition. I much prefer smart business practices over having them constantly getting my hard earned tax dollars to stay in business.

I have travelled with WestJet a lot and have been in more than one IROP situation with them. Things do go wrong (weather, planes, etc) that are beyond their control and I must say that they made the best of it for me every time.
