Initiatives Prince George President Gerry Offet will be around for another year.

"My Board and I have agreed I will stay till the end of 2007.  We will review my retirement situation a year from now" Offet tells Opinion250.

Offet had originally planned to retire this year.  He was named the Economic Developer of the Year a few months ago.

Gerry was formerly an Assistant Deputy Minister  with the government of Manitoba.  In that post he was responsible for economic development in rural and northern Manitoba.

Things are really hoping in Rural and Northern Manitoba.

He kept his job. Ain't that an accomplishment? Would be fer me.
Hey...he will be at Pauls dinner...You an ask him....what he actually does....
Sheeeeeeeit! Another year? I can hardly stand another minute. Maybe he will get the hint at pecherhead Paul's dinner and retire also. Sheeeeeit!
Never even heard of the guy must get paid in the 100's though
He is so brilliant he put a Tourist Information centre on 1st Avenue-a true "white elephant" to the tune of over ONE MILLION for the Prince George taxpayer.
He should have stayed in rural Manitoba.
He and "HIS BOARD" have decided he should stay and not retire. How is that for arrogance?
I, for one, would have said "good riddance" to him, and he is not entitled to a lunch, but then Paul and his $40.00 retirement dinner is a joke.
I think we should have even "fireworks" when Kinsley goes. That will be the finest "good riddance" this city will ever experience.
We sure know how to pick 'em, and get stuck with 'em!
Don't think that the Board wasn't looking for a replacement. The problem is, the Board looks for people with credentials rather than people who can make things happen. Offet has credentials... he may even be able to run the office administration. I guess 2 out of 3 is the best they could find.

Questions:
1.) How hard did they look or, were they just pressed for time and therefore, asking Gerry to stay was expedient?

2.) How much is Gerry earning in this role... directly and indirectly?

3.) Did anyone conduct an executive search, as is being done for Paul's replacement?

4.) As all these are items of public interest and funded via the public purse, how do we get answers?
Hey! Want me to pull down my "particulars" and show you my "credentials?"
QuasiMe we do not get answers because Initiative PG is part of the privatization of government which builds a fire wall between accountability and citizens rights to accountability.

If you want accountability for your tax dollars it has to be set up as a government board of some sort and not the so called P3 scheme.
