Agriculture is getting a front seat on two fronts as meetings are set in this region to deal with the drought problems and the future of the industry.

Tonight the BC Agriculture Planning Committee holds a public meeting in Vanderhoof at the Seniors Friendship center at 7.00 p.m. This series of meetings is being held with a view to talk about the industry.

On October 16th, a meeting will be held at the Bon Voyage Motel in Prince George to outline to farmers how best to deal with the drought conditions. Farmers will be told how best to utilize current feed supplies, where to look for additional feed and how to develop other feeding strategies.

It is not known just how many farmers in the central and Northern part of the province have crop insurance.

In the Peace region, production has been reduced to only 20% of normal. It is not known whether the federal and provincial government will offer some assistance to those not covered by insurance.

Further meetings are planned in Ft. St. John, October 4th, Smithers October 17th and in Vanderhoof on October 18th.
