Prince George Mayor Colin Kinsley is back from three days in Wuxi China, an area which is home to hundreds of manufacturing facilities.
He, along with City Manager George Paul, attended the International Cooperation Summit for Asia-Pacific CEO’s Provincial Governors and Mayors.
Kinsley says the Summit is mean to establish a long term stable communicationsmechanism between various levels of government. The areas in which communications are encouraged are:
- economic relations,
- trade
- technology
- management and branding
Mayor Kinsley says he made a presentation on "Economic Development and Transportation Opportunities between Asia and Canada" with a focus on the opportunities presented by the Prince Rupert Container Port. He says the information was well received and there was interest in the International aspects of the Prince George Airport. He also outlined the Inland Port possibilities for Prince George
Mayor Kinsley says there were specific requests for more information from several people including an American clothing manufacturer who wants to know how he can access the Prince Rupert Port to bring clothing in from China for shipping to Montreal. There were discussions with the President of Northwest Airlines (China) for discussion on intermodal trans-shipping and refueling opportunities in Prince George.
