Prince George Mayor Colin Kinsley is back from three days in Wuxi China, an area which is home to hundreds of manufacturing facilities.

He, along with City Manager George Paul, attended the International Cooperation Summit for Asia-Pacific CEO’s Provincial Governors and Mayors.

Kinsley says the Summit is mean to establish a long term stable communicationsmechanism between various levels of government. The areas in which communications are encouraged are:

  • economic relations,
  • trade
  • technology
  • management and branding

Mayor Kinsley says he made a presentation on  "Economic Development and Transportation Opportunities between Asia and Canada" with a focus on the opportunities presented by the Prince Rupert Container Port. He says the information was well received and there was interest in the International aspects of the Prince George Airport.  He also outlined the Inland Port possibilities for Prince George

Mayor Kinsley says there were specific requests for more information from several people including an American clothing manufacturer  who wants to know how he can access the Prince Rupert Port to bring clothing in from China  for shipping to Montreal.  There were discussions with the President of Northwest Airlines (China) for discussion on intermodal trans-shipping and refueling opportunities in Prince George.

Refueling in PG? There are direct passenger flights to China such as the one from Chicago to Shanghai.

I suppose cargo flights might be heavier and may require a fueling stop or two depending on origin and destination.
It is amazing at how many trips Mr Kinsley is taking at city expense.
Maybe if he stayed home and took cae of domestic business we would be further ahead.
So George Paul got another trip out of taxpayers monies?
Thought he was retiring in a few months?
Was there not a person who could have attended with Kinsley whose knowledge, if any gained, could be utilized?
George Paul will have nothing to offer? ow will he? Is Kinsley planning on paying him huge consulting fees? After his so called retirement?
I just do not think old George is a "done" deal!
I do believe Prince George has been the goose that laid the golden egg for him, and will continue to do so.
What say you?
Need I remind you again.
"Unless you take an interest in your govern, ment you will be served by thos eworse then yourselves"

Cheers
Did hizzoner check to see if Wuxi had any potholes? Or take the trouble to find out how they deal with them? Maybe a better job than being mayor is being the mayor's travel agent. Big bucks there.

The Mayor outlined the Inland Port possibilities, now the Chinese know more about the so-called Inland Port than the taxpayers of Prince George do. This must have take at least 10 minutes.

Maher Terminals have already announced that Containers from China will be going direct from Prince Rupert to Montreal and Toronto. I hope the Mayor was able to tell who ever he had the discussion with that they should phone Maher Terminals. This must indeed have been an indepth discussion that would have taken all of 2 minutes.

Insofar as the International Airport goes, I hope he was able to explain to them that we had approx 12 flights per year direct to Mexico
