Westwood Gets Playground Dollars

It was a big oops.

Two playgrounds at Westwood Elementary, both needing to be replaced, but one more urgent than the other.

Problem, messages were not clear.  The better of the two playgrounds, (the one that was to be  the carry over until funding could be raised by the School's Parent Advisory Council) was removed.  Meaning that with the necessary removal of the other playground, Westwood would be without a playground and short of the funding needed to put one back in place.

The Parent Advisory Council had $15 thousand dollars, it needed $22,000.  It had hoped to have two years to raise those dollars but the removal changed all that.  The Parent Advisory Council isn’t allowed to carry a debt, so loaning the balance of funding to the PAC wouldn’t be the possible.

Trustee Roxanne Ricard said "It is our mistaske, why can’t we just  give the PAC the $7,000,lets pay for the mistake we made."

Her colleagues agreed and Westwood will get a no strings attached payment of $7,000 to go towards the cost of a new, although  somewhat scaled down, playground.
