School District 57 thought that when it went to the Provincial government for dollars to address the mountain pine beetle issues, that it would eventually get $750 thousand.

Wrong.

The School District says it has been approved for just over $500 thousand dollars, leaving them with a shortfall of  more than $200 thousand, and lots of restoration yet to be done.

The Province earmarked $1 million dollars for pine beetle tree removal and the dollars are being distributed by the BC School Trustees Association.  All other Districts have made their applications and have had their  dollars awarded and there is about $300 thousand left over.

School District 57 wants some of that balance. There will need to be lots of landscaping  at some of the schools to bring the ground up to an even level after all the stumps have been removed.

The  Board voted to request that the BCSTA give the District $200 thousand dollars for restoration as a result of the pine beetle kill.

Gee whiz! That's a lot of dough! Show me the reciepts as to how much it cost per tree. I think the school board is being scammed. Big time! But then why should they care? It ain't their money. Who gets the money for the trees?
