Duchess Park Still Under Discussion
By 250 News
While the salvage company continues the job of tearing down the old administration building and prepping KGV for the wrecking ball, there still is no firm plan on what the new Duchess Park High School will look like or when construction might start.
School District 57 Vice Chair, Trustee Lois Boone, says the most recent meeting with Education Minister Shirley Bond failed to reach agreement on the size of the new school. "She understands the reasons why we need the school to accomodate 900 students with regards to the French Immersion program and wanting to keep that program together rather than having it move off which is what would happen if we weren't able to get the 900 school. She understands that, but she made it clear to us that we have to rethink some items and try to be innovative on how to approach this, so we are currently looking at all our options and we'll be making some recommendations on how to approach this."
Boone says they will review everything and will get back to the Minister. All the discussion has put the planning and construction of a new school a little off schedule. "We had hoped to have something final within six weeks" says Boone " That would allow us to get some planning and some construction in the spring. I'm still hopeful that if we get on top of our game plan and push it we can meet our time lines."
