Border Reopened to Live Canadian Beef, Hearing In Montana in Doubt
Friday, July 15, 2005 04:02 AM

Live Canadian cattle under the age of 30 months, can now be shipped into the United States.
The border was re-opened as the result of a ruling by a 3 judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals which overturned a temporary injunction that had been put in place by a Judge in Montana.
That same Montana Judge was to hear arguments later this month aimed at making the injuction permanent. That court action was launched by a U.S. ranchers organization called R-CALF.
Prince George M-P D ick Harris was one of several delegates from the Federal Conservative party granted special status to make a submission to the court on July 27th. The ruling late yesterday, which re-opened the border, now raises questions about that planned court hearing. It is doubtful the session will go ahead.
R-CALF had hoped to argue before the Court that Canada's beef should not be allowed into the U.S. as they claim Canada doesn't adequately check for mad cow disease.
