Finance Minister Carole Taylor says she is hoping that people will appear before the Select Standing Committee on Finance in Prince George this Wednesday.

In a one on one interview with Opinion250 News, Carole Taylor said the provincial government is seeking input from the "average Joe" .  The Minister of Finance said "The big Guys, make themselves known and very often the average person isn’t heard."  She said "We would like to know, would you like us to spend more or spend less and pay down debt?"

The Select Standing Committee on Finance will hold its meetings at the Nechako Room at the Coast Inn from 4 to 8 p.m.

"The last time we took input" said the Finance Minister "We made a change, pick up trucks had the luxury tax taken off them. We realized that they were a tool in the north not a luxury car. "

Taylor said it has been a challenge in her role as Finance Minister "Gary Collins said it was easy when he was Finance Minister he just said no to everything because we were going through restraint."  But that has changed says Taylor "We have some money and we want the citizens to tell us how they would like it spent. "

Why?
The government, in my opinion, has never listened to the people so why should I think they have any intentions of listening now.
They seem to do whatever Mr Campbell says, say what he tells them to.
Maybe if they all resign we could save some big money on pensions.
Let Campbell continue to say and tell all, the others have been proven not to really not be needed....so resignation seems like a wonderful cost saving to me.
If Finance Minister Carole Taylor wants my opinion than I would say lets invest in the Norths future. Firsthing I would do is spend a couple of hundred million to link Vanderhoof with Fort St James by rail and then require CN traffic to go that route to PG and not the route along the Nechako River.

This would mitigate future CN Rail train derailment disasters into our drinking source, as well as promote a whole new watershed for tourism oportunities using the existing rail infrastructure. Downtown PG would claim its river front for future development. Add in a couple hundred more for hazardous waste cleanup.

This would create new opportunities throughout the new mainline for Vanderhoof, Fort St James, Bear Lake, Prince George, and the Nechako river frontage. It would add about 80 kilometres of relatively flat track for CN's international customers.

Investment than could be directed towards tourism and tourism infrastructure. Private money logic would than dictate Fort St James, Bear Lake and possibly further west would make good containerization ports for export goods. If the focus is on export the whole area west of Bear Lake would be ideal for assembly for export of North American built export products. What is good for the region, is good for PG IMO.

Then with the left over money our region deserves I would pony up another half Billion to finish the Cariboo Connector, and then push it through to Vanderhoof with a PG ring road in the middle.
Carole Taylor you have mail....

lol

Carole Taylor said "We have some money and we want the citizens to tell us how they would like it spent"

Herein lies the problem. They want to spend it. We can't afford what we already have and we sure can't afford to go further into debt. But, as our economy improves, the additional revenue is viewed as extra, new found money that can be spent on anything we want. How foolish. This is the perfect time to begin paying down our debts when the revenues are increasing.

No wonder taxes are so high. 7% of our budget is only paying the interest on our debt. Don't they realize that if we managed our personal finances the same way the government does, we would find ourselves in bankruptsy in a few years. Chester
She said "We would like to know, would you like us to spend more or spend less and pay down debt?"

This statement illustrates how incompetent government is at managing any amount of money.
It's not even a consideration, it should be crystal clear what is the right thing to do.
How would you manage your own finances ? What would you do if it was your own private enterprise ?

Let's blow it all on coke and prostitutes, screw the debt. Nobody else pays their bills, why should we ?
And now, in the newspaper this morning,Tuesday, they are forcasting a huge budget surplus,
but still it is maintained that there is no money?
which is it?
Are they just trying to convince us there is not money and have other plans for the "surplus"?
