LIONS 30-ARGOS 22

Entering week four and after just their 3rd game of the season,  the BC Lions now find themselves
the only undefeated team squarely atop the Canadian Football League standings.

While from a BC fan point, last night's contest will not be remembered as a template for a perfect game, it was both an exiting shoot out and proved again to be an unpredictable affair as this league most often
offers up.

As the Lions entered the skirmish, it was crystal clear the offensive line had to make a commitment that to a man, they would protect their QB from the pass rush. Get the job done and the team felt the glory could well be theirs.

Most pundits believed Casey Printers would not be available to enter the game in relief of Dave
Dickenson should he go down to injury ‘cause as much as the CFL MVP would like to get into
some action, his shoulder just isn’t ready.

The first half was all BC as Dave Dickenson hit Tony Simmons and Geroy Simon for majors,
while Duncan O’Mahony was good on two of three field goal tries as the hometown Lions took a
demanding 22-1 lead into the dressing room at half time.

BC defenders had a field day in the first half at the expense of Toronto QB Damon Allen as he
was mercilessly dumped 5 times by blitzing linebackers and a supporting cast.

Ah but alas, as faithful followers of this league will attest, all celebrating should wisely be put on
hold ‘til the last second ticks off, the fat lady has bellowed out her final notes and any post game
brawl is broken up.

The third quarter was just 4:06 gone when Hakim Hill ran the ball in for the Argo’s first major
and just 36 seconds later defensive end Johnathon Brown picked up a Lion’s fumble taking it
into the BC end-zone for their second straight touchdown, and momentum had shifted to the
Argos.

As the Lions were watching the game slowly slip away, it would be important they reply as
quickly and decisively as possible, so perhaps their most important points came just over 3 min.
later on a pass to Jason Clairmont for 6, and BC answers the bell running up their lead to 29-15.

Toronto would score again at 13.09 of the 3rd quarter as R. Jay Soward caught a ball from Damon
Allen taking it in for the major but it proved to be too little too late.

BC entered the match up on a 9 game winning steak at home.

The game marked the return of the brash and flamboyant strong side linebacker Carl Kidd who
had been relegated to the sidelines with an injury.

Dave Dickenson finished the game 26 for 34, 360 yds. and 3 TD’s

Weakside end Cdn. Brent Johnson had 3 out of the Lion’s 8 sacks.

Not sure why the CFL mind trust would allow a clash between arguably the two premier teams in
the league to escape a national audience, as the game wasn’t telecast.

Winning...”it’s a beauty way to go”.
