I still ask why wasn't the surrounding area to the accident checked,in the beginning, just in case?
There is also some question why those who survived the accident didn't say something about the missing youngsters?

My condolences to all the families. Too many taken way too soon.
Seat belts save lives. So we are lead to believe. If nothing else, they would have kept every one in the vicinity. Big secret as to who was there? Teenagers live forever, Remember the bumper sticker that says, "No fear". Doncha know? Still it is a tragedy.
My heart goes out to the families of these young victims. What horrible situation. I just hope that we don't hear from the coroner that they could have survived if found sooner, that would surely haunt us all.
The survivors claimed there were no other passengers. Unfortunately, the kids had just gone through a very traumatic experience and likely were not thinking clearly, and let's face it, teenagers DO NOT think clearly at the best of times anyways, but what about the adult who was present, what did he have to say? Was he lying? There would be no real reason to doubt him if he claimed there were no other passengers.

Sadly though, protocol was not followed and the area was not searched. In light of the circumstances there is no acceptable explanation for this, but it happened. In the meantime let's not stray from the fact that we had five young kids out late on a school night with a 25 year old man leaving town????? Is there an acceptable explanation for this?????? If there is then so be it, lets strive to explain the rest of the sad situation, but if there is no acceptable explanation for what this group was up to, then that is all there is. The "Chips Fell" where they may. The parents should not look for blame anywhere that is not close to home.
P.S. My deepest sympathy to the parents and families of these children. There is no greater loss than that of a child.
