Cougars' Brett Robertson scored just 23 seconds into the game and Eric Hunter scored on the power play in the first period.
Vancouver's Cody Franson scored the lone goal in the second period.
In the 3rd period, Lance Redden scored for the Cats on the power play (his first goal in the WHL), then a couple of minutes later, the Cougars Kalvin Sagert scored.
The difference was penalties as the Giants were able to close the gap with three power play goals late in the 3rd period.
Kyle Lamb had the first power play marker followed by a power play goal by Tim Kraus. Then it was tied up, again on the power play, when Mario Bliznak scored with just 1:07 left in regulation time.
Unable to settle the score in overtime, the game went to the shootout:
