Big Plans Need A Re-Think: One Man's Opinion

Let’s hope the twinning of Highway 97 takes place before someone talks the government of the day into taking a round at attracting the 2028 Summer Olympics or the World Cup of Soccer.

The Vancouver Board of Tourism has teamed up with Seattle to the south to create a study group to look into the feasibility of making a run for the events. The group will look at the viability of staging the events. They both would be co-hosted by Vancouver in Canada and in Seattle, Washington, USA.

The people of the central and northern part of the province can only hope that the plan goes down the drain given the fact that following the 2010, we are poised to be paying a lot of new bills that the province didn’t formerly have. That alone may dampen the mood of those who are interested in trying to snare the Summer Olympics.

While there are still those whose hands are stretched in the northern air hoping that the winter Olympics will somehow bring fame and fortune to this area, regretfully they are in a minority as the bills (with four years to go) keep seeing the light of day.

It will in all likelihood be a very tough sell to try and get the people of BC to buy into the notion that we have deep enough pockets to go another Olympics and while the World Cup Of Soccer is a different kettle of fish it never the less requires a large check book to pull off as well.

When we are finished with the 2010 , and finished with the tab which will be far more than the credit card called for, it might be timely for the powers of the province to look at the people who are contributing the money to make the 2010 go, before dipping into their pockets for a repeat performance.

I’m Meisner and that is one man’s opinion.
