The preliminary enrolment report indicates enrolment in School District 57 is down. Last year there were 15,235 school aged FTE’s (full time equivalents) this year, there are 15,034, a drop of 201.
The largest drop is in the adult education sector. Last year there were 445 Full time equivalent students in adult education. This year that has fallen to 195.
The Superintendent says while there may be some who think that is bad news, he submits the booming economy could be the reason why people are not in school as they may have found employment.
Most Class Averages are within the Ministry of Education guidelines:
Elementary | Class Average this year | Change from last year | Ministry Maximum Average |
Kindergarten | 16.54 | -0.97 | 19 |

The Superintendent, Brian Pepper, notes that while class limits have been met in elementary classes, there are 16 classes in grades 8-12 that are over that 30 students per class mark.
Superintendent Pepper also notes that of those classes with more than 30 students, 7 are academic, the balance is made up of phys ed, band and leadership.)
