School District 57 Trustees have voted unanimously in favour of a pay hike.
The last time the issue of remuneration was dealt with was in 1989.  Chair Bill Christie says the amounts will put School District 57 in line with other regions of like size.
Trustee Lois Boone says although the public doesn’t normally approve of increases she says the public will see that one increase in 17 years is a valid point.
Trustee Michelle Marrelli says the increase will offset some of the expenses Trustees have had to cover, everything from cell phones to pencils and paper.  “I don’t think anyone of us is here to make money” she says, but adds Trustees shouldn’t have to worry if there is enough money to do the job properly.
The increases will add $2,000 per year to each post, bring the Chair’s salary to $17,000
The Vice Chair will get $15,500 and each Trustee will now get $14,000.

I actually like Lois Boone, but her NDP tendencies are showing. Typical NDP to belly up to the trough on any excuse.

I remember when Mike Harcourt's NDP funded some kids lunch program, and his BCTV union pals where there to film it. I thought it was hilarious to watch Mike on TV take his traditional NDP position at the front of the food line for the free meal. The little kids behind him got what was left over. Mike never lost his smile the whole time, quite oblivious to the situation. I thought BCTV's Tony Parsons almost and a tear in his eye. I did too but for a different reason - too funny!

Just think - if you added those salaries together and divided them up between each of the principals and allowed them, with the help of involved parents, to make the decisions as to where the funding for schools should best be spent. I wonder what type of system we would get then? Principals are already trained to run a school - board members are more often using the position as a stepping stone to politics. This would cut down on a lot of red tape, duplication of effort (trips to consult with the schools) The prinicpals already have a working relationship with the school district and their teachers. Seems like decisions that effect the school directly should be made by those who know the situation best.
Oh my, Yama, ammonra is not going to be amused about your little Harcourt anecdote! The winds of Chetwind are going to turn into a veritable tornado!

Actually, I met Mike Harcourt back then and he was a very pleasant person to talk to; I didn't bring up any politics, though.

That may have made a difference.
Really Diplomat, please don't be childish. I do actually have a very good sense of humour, and to infer that BCTV and Tony Parsons were ever in favour of an NDP politician is absolutely hilarious.
Ammo - that's funny -like in odd -I always thought BCTV was way way left when it came to reporting on the left and right politicians endeavors.

So tell me Ammo now you'd read this one.

I'd see BCTV footage of some brute knocking a little fellow around on the sidewalk and figure Oooh! That's nasty! I bet the RCMP have a video copy and are going to lay charges against that thug. But I'm wrong, it's only some NDP union comrade exercising his constitutional right to beat up anyone that gets in his way.

BCTV (and it's union cameraman) play it up like this should be a lesson to the general public and anyone that stands up to the union these days, is gonna get hurt. The message (news) to the public from BCTV was phone your politicians (no matter what side) and demand the union demands be met - no matter the cost or how outrageous. Otherwise expect more violence AND you could be the next victim. Seems to left of of an even keel to me.

I always found that kind BCTV of coverage was irrational, what do you think Ammo?
Your lack of factual information knows no bounds, apparently, Diplomat.

It is a fact that most union members do not support the NDP. If they did the NDP would be the government permanently at both the provincial and federal levels, now wouldn't they?

If a union member commits assault and battery that person should be charged. However, did they show that NDP membership card on TV. Did you see it, or are you just making a bigoted assumption without a shred of evidence? On conviction, people who commit crimes should be sentenced, but not by you, by a judge who at least makes some attempt to be objective.

The same goes for company executives who conspire with scabs to drive trucks through picket lines and send people to hospital with broken bones (a spine, wasn't it?), or do you ever so conveniently forget that disgusting episode in the postal strike on 15th Avenue when no charges were ever laid.

The camera operators do not decide what to show on the news, someone else does that, so blame the non-union executives for what you see not the ordinary Jane for just making a living. Even you couldn't seriously suggest that the corporate elite of BCTV support the NDP, in light of the daily anti-NDP news displays during the Clark period, and the thousands of dollars their parent company contributed to the Provincial Liberal Party. If you do, then you seriously need to get a life.

The news media show the news regardless of what it is, sir (withasee), they don't usually fabricate, although they may practice a bit of Peeping Tomism when they're tipped off by their buddy boys and use long distance lenses to look in someone's front room, or did you conveniently forget about that disgusting episode as well?
