You might notice something a little different, a little louder on the hill near Dragon Lake in Quesnel.

New rumble strips have been installed.

The road safety project in Quesnel is part of the  road improvement program which partners ICBC, municipalities and the Ministry of Transportation on projects that are designed to  improve safety.  ICBC’s North Central Loss Prevention manager, David Dickson says it isn’t just about reducing claims "Most importantly, these programs help prevent crashes, reduce injuries and save lives."

More than $1 million was invested in North Central road improvements by ICBC in 2005.

How about some passing lanes?
We already have "rumble strips" here in P.G. They're called potholes and cracks. With all the potholes and cracks around this town, there is no way you are gonna fall asleep driving around. Makes you stay extra alert just to avoid the major ones.
So that's what those things are called that keep waking me up while I am driving.
;-)
Maybe instead of adding bumps to our already crappy roads, take out the holes so we can concentrate on something other than trying to avoid the craters.
Rumble strips are supposed to alert one to the fact that one is drifting off the highway or into another lane - some people will be too busy on the cellphone to notice, others may wake up just in time to get back on the proper pavement again.

They are not altogether useless.
