Regional District Clear to Borrow $1.5 Million
By 250 News
The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George is expected to give final approval to a bylaw that will allow it to borrow up to $1.5 million dollars.
The bylaw was the subject of an "Alternate Approval Process" which calls for 10% of the qualified voters in the Regional District to officially register their opposition in order to force a referendum.
The matter didn't garner action from 10% of the qualified voters, (that would mean 7,717 valid signatures) in fact, it barely garnered 10 qualified signatures!.
Throughout the regional district, there were all of 6 valid objections from people from Prince George and there were four valid objections from Mackenzie. Two objections from Valemount were rejected as not being eligible.
The results mean, the Regional District now has the ability to go ahead and borrow up to $1.5 million to buy Exploration Place. The money is to be re-paid over a period "not to exceed 20 years."
The matter is expected to be given final approval at the next Regional District meeting which is set for Thursday October 19th.
