A smooth running event coupled with a 3-day attendance of over 7100 all but assured the West of the Rockies Pro Rodeo Finals will return to Prince George next year.
“It was one of the best organized rodeos I have been to,” said Quesnel cowboy Rod Spiers.
Spiers and Josh Cahill of Clinton captured the team roping championship. The BC cowboys helped break through the Alberta domination of the championship finals.
Bull rider Wade McNolty of 150 Mile House was the only other BC cowboy to take home a championship buckle from the 3-day accumulated points final. McNolty, the 2006 BC Rodeo Association champ, topped his weekend effort with an 87 score on the final day.
“I just tried to stay up in the front end of the bull and try to make the whistle,” said McNolty.
Here are the other championship winners of the West of the Rockies Pro Rodeo Finals:
Tie-down roping, Steer Wrestling – Curtis Cassidy of Donalda Alberta
Bareback – Alan Dacyk of Worsley Alberta
Saddle Bronc – Jeremy Holden of Big Valley Alberta
Ladies Barrel Racing – Kelly Rycroft of Sexsmith Alberta
