Rates for the Prince George Municipal Cemetary have not been changed since 2003. The City staff report says  the operating costs have outstripped the revenue over the past couple of years.

According to the report,  there was a $47.5 thousand dollar shortfall in 2004, and a further shortfall of $59.89 thousand in 2005.

The  recommendation was to increase cemetary rates by 5% each year over four years, starting with the balance of 2006 and increasing  on January 1st each year after that.

The increase will mean the rate will increase from $1,832.00 to $2,197.00

Council has approved the first three readings of a bylaw to increase those fees.

Why not? Everything else goes up to keep the working class poor.
Time to see if there is space in the dog cemetery on Shelley Road. Or are there rules as to where you can be planted?

Lots of people don't see much difference between the way dogs and cats are treated and people, so it should be OK?

That way when a person gets so old they aren't any good for anything anymore, someone just phones the SPCA, and if no one claims you it's off to the dog cemetery!

At least you will avoid putting yourself at the tender mercies of some city councilor in the future!
Sorry, no dog cemetery, just the dump unless you pay for the dog.
Its interesting that the City will increase the cost to bury taxpayers who have been supporting the City for most of their lives, using the excuse that there was a $50,000.00 shortfall, because of rising operating costs. Using the same mentality we should look at the cost of the CN Centre. It costs the City approx $380,000.00 per year to operate this facility, and we should therefore increase the cost to the users to offset this loss.

Now the difference is:::::The users of the CN Centre are getting a free ride and would complaine like *H* if the price went up. People who have to use the cemetary are dead, and therefore cannot complain, nor can they vote, and last but not least their relatives have to pick up the tab.

You would think that at the very least this money grubbing City Hall would allow us to be buried at a reasonable cost. Maybe we should get a $850,000.00 replay board set up at the Cemetary so that we can watch replays of our funerals. Do you think the City would borrow $500,000.00 interest free for this. (Maybe not, its not Hockey related)
