There  will be a by-election in the Regional District of Fraser Fort George.  The vote needed following the resignation of Electoral Ara "A" Director Deirdre (Dee) Burden.

She resigned from her post as Director, just days before pleading guilty to defrauding the Royal Bank of just over $31 thousand dollars between 1997 and 2000.

Burden was a personal loans officer at the Bank,  and ran into financial hardship when her husband and  son  developed serious health  problems.  SHe has  since paid back $3,000 dollars, and  her lawyer has told the court she plans to pay back every penny.

The timing of the by-election is not clear although it could happen as early  as  January.

Burden won her seat as Director  last November  by a margin of 18 votes.  She was first elected as a Director in 2002.

Burden will be sentenced tomorrow.  The Crown has asked for a two year conditional sentence, the Defence requested  either a conditional discharge or a conditional sentence of less than a year.

Anyone check the books for the regional district?
Sounds to me if you have some good reasons to break the law, somehow a lenient sentence is appropriate.

If it happened to me, I would be out of business. My credibility would be destroyed forever and I would never ever be able to get a job involving money or be put in a position of public trust.

My question would be how she could put forth her name, to run for an elected position as Director?Chester

I couldn't disagree more commieleroux.

Ms. Burden, like millions of adults across the country and around the world, are responsible for their own choices, and actions... Period.

The 'society is to blame' defence is a valid one in only the most extreme situations.

To invoke it in this case is to insult the millions of us that choose to do the right thing, even when the sledding gets tough.
How do his opinions on this make him a commie?

I am left of centre and I don't agree with him. There are lots of people with problems who don't steal from their employer, and she should be held responsible for it.

So, what does that make me Jethro, a fascist because I agree with you?

Not at all ammonia...

But anyone with 'lefty' in their handle should except commie comments from the gallery.

Well, from the peanut gallery, certainly!
