Hockey Enforcers Mess Sparks One More Round At Council
By 250 News
The Hockey Enforcer's mess is still causing a mess at City Hall
Prince George City Councilor Sherry Sethen doesn't want City Hall to go through the kind of mess it faced over the booking of the Hockey Enforcers event. So she brought forth a couple of reccomendations.
Sethen says while she isn't interested in micro managing city departments, Council needs to have a heads up when potentially controversial events are being planned for a civic venue so she presented a motion to Council. The motion calls for a review of by-laws and regulations surrounding the booking of events.
She says when we go forward to book events, we need to know everyone is on the same page. She says it would give the community a feeling of confidence, and answer the question of how did we get to where we got to in the Hockey Enforcers incident?
The Mayor says this isn't very clear, Councilor Sethen is asking there be "checks and balances" but isn't clear on what that means.
City Manager George Paul tried to clarify by saying for instance the mandate of the Athletic Commission should be adopted , and with the respect of reviewing policy, it would be helpful if Council could indicate some policy guidelines Administration should consider.
Councilor Sethen says "Let's just take a look, if it's good, it's good, but I do believe we need to do something to bring the Athletic Commission's mandate into line with the by-law".
The Athletic Commission has asked to review the by-law once the Commission has returned from a special conference later this. The Commission feels once it has returned from the Boxing Federation Session, it will have a better idea of what the by-law should look like.
With that one defeated, Councilor Dezell moved City Staff work with the Athletic Commission to amend the by-law and bring back a report to Council. No problem there, carried unanimously.
Councillor Don Zarowski entered a new motion, that was considered a mirror image of the initial one that was defeated. So it was tossed....
Back to Councilor Dezell, a motion to have staff report back to Council on their policy on renting civic properties. Passed unanimously.
