Hockey Enforcers Mess Sparks One More Round At Council

The Hockey Enforcer's mess is still causing a mess at City Hall

Prince George City Councilor Sherry Sethen doesn't want City Hall to go through the kind of mess it faced over the booking of  the Hockey Enforcers event.  So she brought forth a couple of reccomendations.

Sethen says while she isn't interested in micro managing city departments, Council needs to have a heads up when potentially controversial events are being planned for a civic venue so she presented a motion to Council.  The motion calls for a review of by-laws and regulations surrounding the booking of events.

She says when we go forward  to book events, we need to know everyone is on the same page.  She says it would give the community a feeling of confidence, and answer the question of how did we get to where we got to in the Hockey Enforcers  incident?

The Mayor says this isn't very clear,  Councilor Sethen is asking there be "checks and balances" but isn't clear on what that means.

City Manager George Paul tried to clarify by saying for  instance the mandate of the Athletic Commission  should be adopted , and with the respect of reviewing policy, it would be helpful if Council could indicate some policy guidelines Administration should consider.

Councilor Sethen says "Let's just take a look, if it's good, it's good,  but I do believe we need to do something to bring the Athletic Commission's mandate into line with the by-law".

The Athletic Commission has asked to review the by-law once the Commission has returned from a special conference later this.  The Commission feels once it has returned from the Boxing Federation Session, it will have a better idea of what the by-law should look like.

With that one defeated,  Councilor Dezell moved City Staff work with the Athletic Commission to amend the by-law and bring back a report to Council.  No problem there,  carried unanimously.

Councillor Don Zarowski entered a new motion, that was considered a mirror image of the initial one that was defeated. So it was tossed....

Back to Councilor Dezell, a motion to have staff report back to Council on their policy on renting civic properties. Passed unanimously.

The only councillor more annoying than sherry sethen IMO is The ever obnoxious BARNEY SKAKUN! Sherry you are too old let go, you are out of touch with reality.

just some bored guys opinion.
It states above:
"City Manager George Paul tried to clarify by saying for instance the mandate of the Athletic Commission should be adopted"

This is the current bylaw of the City with respect to the Athletic Commission:

http://www.city.pg.bc.ca/cityhall/committees/athletic/athleticcommission.pdf

It states VERY clearly under 4 (a) "to regulate and supervise professional boxing and wrestling." The Hockey Enforcer was neither and for anyone to say otherwise is simple nonesense.

Counicl has made a bylaw. That gives the Staff and the Commission its marching orders.

Neither the Commission nor the Staff have followed that law of this City and the law this City must uphold or be in contravention of the Local Government Act.

The Commissioners ought to have been dismissed a long time ago, and the City Manager ought to have had a reprimand from Council in a closed meeting. Not abiding by a law of this City is a serious breach of conduct.

Sadly, I have noticed it has become a way of life in this City. The place is falling apart. It is being run by the inmates and Council does not have the understanding to recognize it and deal with it.

This is an important election coming up and if someone could get the ducks in line, Paul and his minions will be toast. His time has come.
So some Youth organization is sponsoring whatever in this city and a group of youths, (10 or 11?), will be renting a house and living there for a period of time. By Law states no more than 5 UNRELATED RESIDENTS in one home, but the Mayor suggests this by law should be overlooked. Overlook them all, and govern this city however Kinsley and Paul choose, with administration turning a blind eye rather than do their jobs they are handsomely paid for.
Also, Kinsley suggested loud and clear that they must stop worrying about LETTERS TO EDITORS. Some letters must be hitting sore spots-like a "thorn in their sides."
Dan Rogers had enough of protocol not being adhered to and promptly set the Mayor on his butt. Good to see, as it is finally being recognized, even by the insiders, that this city is not being governed with desired results.
Zurowski got a bit of a set back and sat with some egg on his face.
Skakun apologized for even opening his mouth when out of order.
Wow, are they finally waking up to the fact that --just maybe--we do not believe they are what this city needs to go forward????? I will kind of miss little Cliff Dezel, who portrays himself as being the absolute ultimate re decorum!!!! Interesting!!! After the civic election-now that will be the time for the front lawn barbecue. What a fitting "go away" party. Hmmmmm?? I hope bleeding heart Murray is not around to cook 'em up though. Hope they can hold off on that Backpacker homeless shelter until he is gone.
Am I a cynic-or am I a cynic??? Hell YES!!!!!!
There is no by-law which restricts parking at WalMart in such a way that it would prevent motor homes there ....

it is not in the zoning bylaw nor any other by law ...

I would love to be ticketed for it by a bylaw enforcement officer .... easy as pie to win in traffic court .....
Well, the way I see it, according to the by-law,the athletic comition in no way has deristiction over the enforces show.No where in the by-law does it say "or any other fighting contests or exibions",so why the problem?
damyzz ... the problem is that unlike you, neither the staff at Ciy Hall nor the Council can read .... or do not want to read ....

they believe what is in their mind is important, not what someone wrote before they came to power .....
Help!!! Caught some comment on T V last night whereby I THINK Wolski said kids can buy tickets for The Enforcers. Apparently there was a discussion with the worthy Kinsley as to restricting attendence to 19 and over, but nothing was "carved in stone." Simply a discussion. Line up kids-the show will go on. Is it so???
