The Prince George Airport Authority has announced Air Canada Jazz will service Prince George as of August 1st, with a full seven flights available by September.  The 50 seat Dash 8 service will provide a financial boost tothe Airport Authority through the landing fees.

Other airport notes:
Consultants expect to present a report to the Airport Authority  later this month on the construction of a new runway.  The cost estimate for the new runway could be in the 8.5 million dollar range.

Canada Customs  is also looking at expanding services at the airport, but will look at developments of the airport before making a decision to move or increase staff at the airport.  The Airport Authority asked Council to press Ottawa for funding for international border customs considerations.  As the P.G. Airport is relatively new in the international flight game, Customs Canada only funds those international airports that handled cross border flights before airports were transfered to local authorities.  The Authority noted, that of the costs of renovating the arrivals and departures area, half the money went towards the development of facilities for Customs.

The Authority notes Prince George is a desireable alternative as a refuelling site over Anchorage especially since there has been talk of a new third runway.  It was suggested taking just one 747 every day  for a year, would add a million dollars in income for the Airport Authority in the form of landing fees.

This isn't news. Air Canada Jazz has flown here for ages, so how are they going to "start servicing PG as of August 1st"?? I just flew their Dash 8 a couple months ago. They are bringing a new aircraft type here as of August 1st according to their website. The crappy Dash 8's are gone, and PG gets new regional jets.

On the 2nd topic, bring in all the air traffic you can to YXS. It'll make HUGE $$$$ directly, plus the spinoff created by larger charter planes bringing dollar-spending tourists into town, as the talk has suggested.

The Duke is all for it!!
It is an awkward way of stating that there will be one more flight to Vancouver added as of August 1, 2005.

I was actually just looking at booking a flight for August 19th and notice that the flight has not been added to the schedule yet.

In fact, the six flights available for that day all still have Tango seats, the lowest fare class, available for that day, very unusual for this time of year.

So I checked for this Friday and it is similar, with only the 9:30 am flight unavailable other than for the premium fare of $357 + add-ons one way.
Yippe dippe, IMO maybe they can go broke now as well. Jet's go gave it up for dead not long after coming to our market. As for the "duke" or shall I say "DORK", keep dreaming if you think charters are going to bring "big dollar spending tourists to PG?", that is the dumbest thing I have heard for a while.

later.........
Yes spanky. A plane load of German tourists all starting their RV'ing jaunts throgh western Canada (which they do in LOADS)in the summer, will not spend a single dollar in PG. Are you kidding me? It's not going to make PG any crazy amount of bucksthat will change our lives in any drastic way, but lets say each passenger on a 200 seat jet from Frankfurt spends $100-$200 each in PG before starting their RV'ing trip. That's a healthy injection into our economy. You do the math. (that $100-$200 is conservative too. that # is probably higher). It's at least better than the ZERO dollars we get from charter flights now. And not to mention, the PG airport will get some cash flow from that big plane overnighting on the tarmac as well. Plus, if the charters from PG to Mexico and the sun spots continue, that's even MORE $$$ for the PG Airport. The "Dork" (very original by the way...that one cut me deep) speaks the truth.
