Prince George City Council has unanimously approved making operating grants of nearly $15000.00 for two events aimed at linking up with the 2010 Olympics.

First, the Spirit of B.C. Community Committee asked for $4,500.00  to cover the cost of renting the Civic Centre for the Winter Opportunities Summitt set for early February.

Secondly, the Committee asked for up to $10,000. for an Olympic Celebration at CN Centre aimed at piggy-backing on the Torino games in February of next year.  That celebration would coincide with the closing ceremonies of the games and the passing of the winter olympic torch to Canada.

In supporting the requests, Mayor Colin Kinsley noted that when the  2010 Winter games were awarded to Vancouver,  the local Committee sprung into action with the attitude, "not to expect anything from 2010 to be delivered on a silver platter, we knew we would have to go out and get it"   According to Mayor Kinsley, the P.G. Spirit of B.C. Community Committee is considered by others in the Province to be "leading edge".
