Council Raving

Raves, the all night dance party.   Drinks, and possibly drugs. So what to do?  Councilor Brian Skakun wants City Staff to do some research to see if there is any way the City can regulate late night licenses in order to have some control on what happens.  There is a fear  banning the raves would drive them underground. Councilor Brian Skakun put forth a motion that would direct administration to bring back a report on Raves and what other cities are doing with respext to controlling them.

Mayor Colin Kinsley says:
"What concerns me is that we have got to quit reacting to letters to the editor"  that sparked a response from Councilor Skakun who told the Mayor he was taking offense .  The Mayor responded with "that's fine  you have a right to be offended, but what I have in front of me is a letter to the Editor...."  at which point he turned off Councilor Skakun's microphone guaranteeing there would be no further discussion on that angle.

Despite the move, the Councilors unanimously approved the motion.

Hey BARNEY Skakun. it is time to come up with some of your own ideas instead of being some sort of civic watchdog. If you want to stop peoplr from doing drugs then maybe you should go kick down some crackhouse doors around town and round up the peddlers. Raves have been going on for years, for better or worse. IMO, we need to put an end to BARNEY's exploits down at city hall. Barney needs to be voted out come fall.

Just one bored guys opinion.
Just one more thing to add. IMO lil colin can not be so bad at least he cut off ol BARNEY SKAKUN's microphone before it was too late. Would a muzzle be too much to ask for?

Later.................
So what we have here is that the City will allow drunkfests at the newly named CN Centre but will not allow raves ...???

Hey Spanky .... whatever happend to government of the people, by the people and for the people ?? .... there are more people than just you you know... ;-)

or are you telling me that if you put a good thought to this blog one day and a councillor actually reads it and brings the idea to council because he agreed with you, that you would tell everyone they should vote the guy out because he listened to one poor soul on here ..???

remember, Council bought it, the Mayor lost .....

hey, wait a minute... didn't that just happen recently and it was brought back by the Mayor and he won ???

Should we should stay tuned till next meeting?????
The Major turned off Skakun's microphone? Censorship is apparently alive and well, and practiced (with Spanky's approval) at City Hall. So much for the Major's committment to free speech. So much contempt for those voters who voted for Skakun to represent them. Hypocricy!
Owl and Anmoron are both missing my point. IMO BARNEY Skakun is only using these letters to council to get himself some press as the ultimate dogooder. These knobs that write letters to city hall will all be out to vote this fall and you know that Barney is aware of that. It is vote sucking on the simpletons of Prince George not censorship.

just some bored guys opinion.......
And I suppose you feel that the Mayor turning off a Councillor's mike is not vote sucking?

Every single action by a an elected individual can be construed as vote sucking, no matter which side of a debate one takes.

I would rather someone take a side than wallow in the mud of uncertainty .... now that is vote sucking if I ever saw it.
I agree with "Spanky" on this one,ol Barney Skakun continues to come off as a dogooder, maybe he should take some of that time and energy and divert it towards the conditions of our roads in this town, the pot holes are still out of this world and here we are July 19th.While he's at it maybe he can do something about the white lines that need to be painted on the 400 to 500 feet of new asphalt that we finally got on 5th and 15th ave.IMO ol Barney doesn't care about anything but getting re-elected so he goes through the motions, voicing his concerns about useless issues.Remeber Barney....and the rest of you councillor's....the old saying goes "what have you done for me lately"it's going to take a little more than buying a $10 hot dog to get my vote this fall.
ROCK keeping it real 24/7
Kb and the rock are on the right track bit IMO old owl there is too long winded and self absorbed. Your opinion is fine but leave me be to have my own. you are a fool who likes to listen to himself/herslef speak. Anyhow, no one will listen to what you have to say anyways, you need to condense your opinions.

later...........
time out for ad hominem attacks by spanky ....
okee dokee, OWL?

The following is a letter sent to Opinion 250 News for insertion in this blog:

Its too bad some of the people on this site do not have the courage to use their real names when they make postings. It must take a lot of courage to make accusations that are based on very little fact. As one of the posted comments referred to running for council my advice is use your real name when you do.

Had some of the anonymous people posting their comments about raves done their research into this as I have done since last winter they might have a better understanding of what the purpose is of us as a council dealing with this issue. I have talked to many parents who have had their kids overdose, watch sex acts and be put a great risk because of the date rape drugs that are prevalent at some of these events.

Many communities have dealt with these raves by better monitoring and passing regulations or bylaws that will help protect the young people that attend these events. I will do what I can to help ensure the kids of our community have as much safe clean fun as possible at minimal risk.

Regards Brian Skakun
Hey Brian, yor talking about date rape drugs and kids and watching sex acts,my question to you is....what are the police doing?Drugs, sex acts and minors involved with drugs and booze....this sounds like it's a police issue...period end of story. As far as you doing everything in your power to help the youth of the community, that's great but IMO you are doing this to get re-elected and you don't want to touch the tough issues.I ask you this...take a drive around town, take your time and really look, check out the conditions of the roads and take a walk downtown and really look. Then tell me if you were an investor wanting to invest money here what your thoughts would be.Then take a weekend and drive up to Smithers, have a look then tell me what you think.

What a pack of idiots!!! Brian Skakun is correct with his statements re date rape drugs, LSD, crack, liquor, etc being available at Raves. It is a time and place whereby the young seem to be at their most susceptible.
Parents rights have been lessened to a degree that they live in fear that their offspring will come to harm at such events, and rightly so. How many police would it take to control and oversee 500 to 1000 young people.
This form of so called entertainments hould NOT take place-PERIOD.
Gypsy, this is a RCMP issue end of story. What on earth could our city council do about it?besides waste more time and create more mindeless dribble.Tonight when I go to bed I,ME,THE ROCK,knows where my kids are,it's time for the parents to get involved if they are so concerned where their kids are at night. This city council needs to get on with running the city to it's full economic potential, leave the parenting and policeing to the people that should be doing it.
