Quesnel RCMP  have made an arrest in connection  with a street fight that p[rduced fatal results.

Police say  the 44 year old victim of the weekend altercation  outside a Mac's Convenience store, suffered head injuries,  he was conscious when police arrived on the scene but police say he was taken to G.R. Baker hospital and his condition deteriorated.  He was then transferred to Kelowna General where he underwent surgery this morning for his injuries, but succumbed to those injuries.

Police have arrested  a 20 year old Quesnel man  on a count of Second Degree murder.

The victim and accused knew each other, and  police say this did not appear to have been a random incident.

The names of the two men have not yet been released.

Street fighting and back yard brawling are OK. At least that is what I just read recently in a previous column. Or, was it ok as long as someone doesn't get hurt too bad?

I vote for no fighting. No excuses. No exceptions. No fighting. Period. Chester
I'd agree to banning none sanctioned fighting, but how would you enforce such a law?
Probably beat up his Dad
"Enforcing" is typically the last resort.

The triple E approach is typical in such situations. Engineer (design the system properly); educate (awareness raising); enforce (enforce existing laws and/or enact legislation)

In this case, the first may not apply, although I have not explored that yet.

Likely the first is awareness raising through an education process. If the words from the RCMP reported on here are what they seem to be, it would have to start with the RCMP, school programs (extensions of the bullying program which is already out there) and general public awareness.

If the posts on this site are any indicator of the notion that "fighting" is okay, then there is a lot of work to do and could take a decade.
Yeah I read a bunch of comments about "Boys will be Boys". That is all BS. The young kids now are meaner and have no mercy. Often it is many against one. Unfortunately the kids are smart enough to do this where they won't get caught...until someone gets critically hurt or worse. It is not like the 70's where a fight was usually over quick and was only with 2 combatants. The worst nastiest fights back then were the girl fights. Far worse than the men. It is getting even for the both sexes at who is worse. I pity the RCMP who have to deal with such disresepectful people, young and old.
Bottom line? What's the penalty, if any? That goes for every situation involving our laws.
