City and Cougars Have A Puddle Huddle
By 250 News
The problem with the rink surface at Saturdays Cougar's game against visiting Everett Silvertips was the subject of a City huddle on Sunday.
The key players, Diane Rogers and Phil Beaulieu of CN Centre will meet with the Cougars today to talk about what the next steps will be.
Saturday's game was on hold for more than an hour between the second and third periods because the ice behind the east end goal had turned to mush. Unable to make a repair, the game was stopped, and the third period will have to be played on February 27th when the Silvertips are back in town.
The CN Centre's Diane Rogers had issued a media release saying the ice problem was a culmination of a couple of things. The initial zamboni problem (leaking oil on to the new surface) which meant the ice had to be removed also meant that a mesh type logo that was inserted later in the ice process was only covered with 3/4 inch of new ice. During the game, the mesh had become exposed.
According to Rogers, the CN Centre and Community Arenas Manager, "City Staff is currently researching why the mesh became exposed, if any other buildings have had similar peroblems and what alternate techniques are used to install mesh logos during mid season. Once they are condfident the sutation will not repeat itself, they will reinstall the advertising."
