Mining in B.C. is the big push for three days of meetings in China between industry, Provincial Government representatives and their Chinese counterparts.

Bill Bennett, Minister of State for Mining,  is taking part in the 2006 China Mining Congress in Beijing, China.

"Mining in British Columbia is an industry worth more than $6 billion and growing," said Bennett. "We welcome China’s investment, and see this as a great opportunity for British Columbia and a key element of our Asia-Pacific Strategy."

The proposed inland container port in Prince George ties in with that strategy. The recent  report on the vialbility of such a project indicated it should start with  filling containers for the back haul with  forest products, although that could be expanded to handle other resources or products.

This is the first time the Province has had an opportunity to attend  the Mining  Congress which is the largest  convention of its type in Asia with some 2,000 delegates attending.

The Minister will not only be  promoting  mining exploration in B.C,  there will also be an opportunity to promote some of the mining technology that has been developed in this Province  which  the Minister says can be shared with China "to help their mining sector realize its full potential."

I hear Campbell is going along too, proabably taking his wife as well. Along with Kinsley, it must be nice to travel the world at taxpayers expense when most of us can't even afford to go to Quesnel and back.
Like I said before. I think the mayor needs a job after he gets dumped next election, and with his experience, what could be better than becoming a travel agent. Bin there, dun that.
I would give Mr. Campbell a toonie if he could lose Colin in a crowd, thereby making sure Colin misses his flight back. Heh. Heh. Just kidding!
One can be sure that our Mayor has the backing and support of our city councillors in regards to his travel plans.

Why is it that they are not drawn into the discussions? Chester
Why are the other Council members not drawn into the discussion. Well they are just sheep and it would be pointless to keep repeating the same story. And does Colin have to ask them if he can or cannot go to China?

Colin does not have to get lost in the crowd to miss his flight. He's in good company and might just get into the saki and not return.

Cheers
>One can be sure that our Mayor has the backing and support of our city councillors in regards to his travel plans.<

Councillors are just as eager to travel, given an opportunity, so it isn't surprising that they don't object.

All elected officials see travelling as an occupational benefit or perk, it comes with the office. They travel to far away places even though a telephone conference call would do the trick as far as communications go.

There is also video-conferencing which is almost as good as being there in person.

Colin does not need anybody's permission to travel: he is on top of the heap.
Hopefully we won't be embarassed again by a drunk driving again....
Top of the heap kinda sums it up. Don't it?
