The Regional District of Fraser Fort George meets this afternoon, and will select a Chief Election Officer for a by-election in Electoral Area “A“. It is expected the Regional District’s Manager of Corporate Services, Tom Yates, will be given the nod.

The by-election will most likely be held in mid January, in time for the winning candidate to be sworn in for January’s Regional District Board meeting on the 18th. The by-election was brought about by the resignation of Dee Burden. She resigned from the post on the eve of being sentenced for defrauding the Royal Bank of more than $30 thousand dollars.

Also on the Board’s agenda:

A presentation from Chief Superintendent Barry Clark of North Division and Superintendent Dahl Chambers of the Prince George detachment about policing in small communities.

The Highway 16-97 Economic Alliance will make a presentation and request $50 thousand dollars in funding.

A two year cultural contract with the Forestry and Railway museum will be reviewed. It allows for funding from the Regional District of $140 thousand a year in each of the two years.

There is also a request to update the Region’s industrial land use study as the last one was done in 2001, and much has changed in the past five years.
