Condors Capture Zone Volleyball Title

Duchess Park defeat College Heights to win triple-A girls zone Volleyball title

The Duchess Park Condors join host Kelly Road as Prince George representatives in the BC triple-A girls volleyball championship. Duchess Park defeated the College Heights Cougars 25-18, 26-24 to capture the North Central Zone triple-A girls volleyball crown.

Playing at a gymnasium steeped in championship lore, the host Condors took control midway through each set. A 10 point surge in the opener proved too much for College Heights. The Condors withstood a late rally to put away the Cougars in the second set.

“We came out here this weekend knowing we had to win if we wanted to go to the provincials and we got the job done,” said Sam Martin of the zone champs.

Martin, Brittany Palumbo and Katrina Teit of Duchess Park all earned all-star honours. Teit was named tournament M-V-P.

The BC triple-A girls volleyball provincials are Nov.30- Dec. 2 at Kelly Road.

“It means a lot to play at home, it’s so much better being on your home court,” said Martin, who helped Duchess to a fourth place finish at last year’s provincial.
