Northern Health is trying to see what its next path will be on Road Health.

The Road Health project was launched as an effort to reduce the  number of  injuries and fatalities on northern roads.

A little over a year  ago,  a number of community grants were announced for specific projects to help reduce the number ofinjuries and deaths, and now Northern Health is looking to see what it will do next.

"We know there has been a change" says  Northern Health's CEO Malcolm Maxwell "It used to be the media talked about accidents, now, the language says injuries and crashes, so there is a change to recognize these are events which can be prevented."  There were no statistics presented to suggest there has been any real reduction in motor vehicle crashes.

Maxwell says one of the next projects may be the development of a driver safety program which Northern Health may offer to its employees.

To go after speeders, tailgaters and drivers who have never discovered that their vehicles came with factory installed turn signals would be a good start!

Better highways make a difference too! Logging trucks seem to be unaware of speed limits and they seem to be enjoying an immunity from being ticketed by the RCMP - it sure looks that way!
