Prince George (North District ) RCMP Regional General Investigative Section helped  the Williams Lake detachment in a major marijuana grow-op bust Wednesday.

Police are just now releasing details of the mid week search and seizure.

At approximately 5 pm, on Wednesday, RCMP  members from North District joined  Williams Lake General Investigative Section , Crime Target Team, Forensic Identification Specialists, and Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services in the execution of a Search Warrant at a residence on Cedar Creek Road in Likely, south of Quesnel.

Investigators say it took several hours to dismantle the grow-op which resulted in the seizure of 5,566 marijuana plants. According to police, there were enough plants to make up nearly 3 million joints.

Two men from Surrey, one 36 years old, the other is 40,  were arrested at the scene, and have been released on a promise to appear in Court in Williams Lake at the end of January.

Police say they are convinced this was a commercial operation.

Arrested and released. Wow! Some deterent. Only in Canada. A lot more people would be in the pot business if it wasn't for organized crime messing about. The cops? A minor nuisance. Organized crime with an attitude? No way.
I think it probably more the decision of the courts than the police.
But , yes some deterant.
I think it is pretty slack, get busted in the Cariboo, you come from Surrey, and all you have to do is PROMISE to appear in court. If they ever see these guys again, it will probably only because they are stupid enough to get caught again.
I find that hard to believe. Like real hard!
Anybody have any idea how much space required to grow 5,566 plants? There is probably not any place in Likely to grow that many, and they sure are not growing out in the bush.
Wonder who did the count? And what were they smoking?
Anyhow, who cares-those guys are probably on their way back East by now.
They were probably growing it for "medicinal" purposes, which would get them off the hook.

Justice???? So, just what is justice in the eyes of our Judges, Courts and Lawyers?

What is the point of RCMP spending so much time trying to nail these folks, when our legal system tells them to go home and make sure to come back for your court appearance? Yeh, right? We'll be there, honest, we promise.

What a waste of time. So, what part of come back later is the deterant?

So, my question is this? How do we change it? Who are the Judges accountable to? How much influence do the lawyers have in all this? What a charade. Forgive me for ranting. I apologize. Chester
They will come back and appear in court because not to do so would make them fugitives. If found guilty at best they will get a suspended sentence and a fine. The Country is full of grow ops.

So whos the problem them that grows it, or them that smokes it.

I think it is pretty common knowledge that many many people in BC smoke pot. Quit often you can smell it going in and out of the Malls etc; it does not seem to be a big deal with the Law Enforcement people.

The people who smoke dope and take drugs have to take some of the responsibility for these grow ops etc; After all its being grown for the consumers.

Surrey, eh??!! ...

And we were just wondering in another thread what industry keeps Surrey going. ... now we now:-)

Maybe they were seedlings, or dwarf versions?? ..... just like these ....

http://www.coffeeshop.freeuk.com/General/Growroom.html

and the ones found in Toronto which were being grown in 22 apartment suites in a highrise apartment with 700 residents .. there were 6,000 plants there ... so using an average of 1,000 sf per suite that would be 22,000 sf or about half an acre to grow 6,000 plants .....

700 residents in a 117 unit apartment building .. 22 used for grow ops .. so 95 apartments max. rented out to residents .... so more than an average of 7 residents per suite. Jane-Finch area ...

Are we all happy to live in PG?
Its common knowledge that the cops overenflate their figures to make it look good when they make a bust. They do have to justify their jobs after all,and look good in the publics eye. 3 million joints...gimmme a break.
I wonder how many they put aside for their christmas party.
