More details are  coming forth on the  cargo reload centre in the former BCR lands.

The project is "Centrex Container Services Inc."  site a joint partnership of four people and will have "Coast 2000" a lower  mainland port operator, coming  on board as 50% partner and  operator of the site.

The sale of the lands is expected to be complete in early February.

Meantime, CN is quietly continuing its preparations on the First Avenue  yard.

When the  report on the  benefits of an inland container port was released a few weeks ago, it was noted that everything must be in place in time for the  opening of the Prince Rupert Port,  That opening is  set for the fall of 2007.  Officials involved with the  development of the report indicated there has already been a great deal of work going on behind the scenes to ensure  the inland  port  would be up and running  in time.

The developers of the cargo reload center have indicated they have been working on their project for some time, and have been  getting a great deal of support from City Hall, Initiatives Prince George, and the Provincial Government.

"...City Hall, Initiatives Prince George, and the Provincial Government."

Probably not in that order though.
Will they be able to keep the train on the track?

1. By establishing this reload centre in the BC Rail Industrial Park they have eliminated any need for any trucks to use the Cameron St. Bridge, because all traffic from the Hart Hiway, and from the Pulp Mllls and River Road (If their is any) would use the John Hart Bridge. Any traffic from the East of West would go direct to the BC Rail Industrial Park. What this means is that there will be no increase in traffic over the Cameron St. Bridge for the forseeable future, and therefore why do we need a new bridge? If the City,Initiative PG., and the Provincial Government, knew about this develpment, why would the City still be pushing for a new bridge to handle projected increases in Traffic???

Insofar as the CN Rail continuing its preparations on the 1st Avenue yard, I have seen no evidence of any work going on in this area. Even if it is, it would probably be for storage of Empty Containers, that would be loaded at shippers plants, rather than going through the Reload at the BC Rail.

In any event this is a non-event as the Containers loaded to Prince Rupert are only replacements for those that are presently railed or trucked to Vancouver. **Coast 2000** Which used to be called Coast Terminals, and its subsiduiary company Fraser River Terminals are big players in loading and handling Containers in Vancouver, and are probably involved in the re-load centre in Prince George as a hedge against any business they might lose in Vancouver.

Lets see what shakes out of the tree in the following months.
