An RCMP officer heading off to work near Wal Mart yesterday watched as a truck and river boat went the other way on the highway.
When he got to work he learned that the truck and boat had been stolen. Police began a search of the area and spotted the 16ft Harborcraft boat and a 350 Ford Diesel truck at a residence known to police.
The RCMP has now taken into custody three adult males and a young offender. They are being charged with theft over $5,000 dollars and possession of stolen property. The boat and truck had been stolen from the parking lot of the Sandman Inn.
While investigating the theft,  police also recovered a Ford Pick up, a utility trailer, a Honda Quad, satellite radio and a number of tools on the property.
In addition to this haul, police also executed a search warrant at the home of one of the accused and were able to seize numerous other stolen items.

After seizing all those "ill gotten gains" from these crooks, I bet the cops didn't even arrest them. The cops probably gave them a "promise to appear notice" to go to the cop shop at their earliest convenience. Why waste time taking them to jail, only to let them go? It saves the environment not having those police cars take the suspects to jail only to let them go an hour later. Don't ya just love this system?
That's not the problem Harbinger, arresting and taking them downtown accomplishes nothing. They must be channelled by the system into making total reparation to the victims. It is the only method that has ever shown any promise of being effective. Brutal punishment has been a miserable failure in the past, as has been incarceration.

And remember another problem:
Young Offender = Diplomatic Immunity
Be out early this week to start all over again,
and more christmas shopping! When are these people going to be held accountable for there actions..There's no fear in what they do.
A little dose of lead poisoning would end the problem.
Yeah, well we all know the cops have the equipment to give them some lead in their ear but they now live in fear the public will get horribly upset-not to mention the families.
They should be locked up-period.
No promise to make an appearance at a later date.
Remove them to jail-where they cannot make the effort to recoup their losses-which they are probably doing at this time.
Someone should approach the insurance companies and ask if they would be willing to pay a percentage for the costs of jailing these crooks.
I can't begin to imagine the money claimed by people who get ripped off-as I am sure the majority all of a sudden are missing far more than could have been removed. It would be classified as "capitalizing."
Oh, for goodness sake, how could I have been so stupid. Cannot put these crooks in jail-as who would support their families, unless they are already on welfare-ripping off the system?
This has become a "tough call." I just don't seem to have an answer!
Ripped-off?

I always thought that term was used for scam artists who fraudulently, and sometimes not so fraudulently remove money from one's possession, not through stealing but through one's own stupidity or misplaced trust.

It is exhausting spending one's time in the prevention of theft. This time of year sees a lot of shoplifting as well. I used to exhaust myself on the floor in the shop where I worked trying to prevent loss. When a shoplifter was caught in the act and the police were called in, the attending officer tried to convince the shop not to press charges. "What's the point" he said, "(the lifter) will just be out in a week and at it again."
Insurance Companies do not lose money on stolen articles. They have to pay the claims, however at the end of the day they increase their premiums to cover their losses and guess what???

Just like Owl always says, at the end of the day the Consumer pays.

My house Insurance has gone up every year for 28 Years even though I have never had a claim. The Insurance Companies always have an excuse for the Increase. Much like ICBC, and others of their ilk.

There is more that one type of crook in this Country. We always focus on the person who steals our property, however we rarely focus on the so called legitimate business's that very deftly lift the money out of our pockets through various and sundry unjustified price increases, tax increases, etc; You could call them Corporate Foot Pads.

This is another type of hold-up that while not illegal certainly gets your money.

Our wonderful banks who make Billions of dollars in profits on their credit cards, and download their Customer Service to 3rd world Countries to save money, are another example of how you can be releived of your money. Any money lost due to bad debts, etc is recovered through an increase in interest rates on those that pay their bills, which in effect means that it matters little if some people dont pay because in the end they will get their money back. Uncollected debt is sold to Collection Agencies for collection.

Fill 'em full of lead? Nah. Just feed them some undercooked pork. That oughto make life interesting while awaiting trial in jail. A lesson that would work for me.
I am so relieved to see that Owl does not know everything. I guess he has never been "ripped off!" How fortunate-we have not all been quite so lucky-and yes-I have seen numerous cases where welfare was "ripped off."
Should I have said "they scam the welfare?"
Thereby obtaining money by fraudulent means?
Not that I want to make an issue of anything so petty as the expression not suiting someone.
Here's a suitable punishment: Get the owner of the boat to take the guys waterskiing on the Nechako....today !
What to do seems to be the question? How about packing them up and kicking them out of our city. They have to leave everything they have behind, stolen or not. Kick their sorry asses out of town.

Who cares where they go? Who cares what they do? Let someone else deal with their pathetic existence.

Maybe we should have gates at the four entrances to our city and not everyone gets in. The cost of border guards must be cheaper than the cost of trying to make them civilized. Chester
I think that Ben should simply copy these responses and use them for future responses to news reports such as this. It would spare us the time to post the same thing over and over and over again .....

;-)
Maybe we could defend our sovereignty in the Artic by sending them all up there to live on an island after three strikes. Kind of like Australia, but in the Artic.
If found guilty of theft, no jail time or other punishement should be done , except this.
Cut their right hand off....if caught a second time, cut the left hand off.
If a person is stupid enough to try it again, cut their right foot off....etc.....
I bet thieves stop and think real fast about what they did as the axe balde severes their hand.
Sure would cut down on crime is my prediction.
