This is the time of year when higher purpose persons get all hot and bothered about the Christ in Christmas, shriek that little children will become confused if they’re exposed to a Nativity Scene in the school or asked to sing Christmas Carols instead of Frosty the Snowman and Jingle Bells.

Strangely the people who object to Christ being involved in Christmas are not the minorities within our society but an annoying group of tiny minds who look for ways to make nuisances of themselves over what they see as unacceptable conservatism in the community.

Will Easter be next?

Will Good Friday become Bugs Bunny Day?

Canada is not, I readily concede, a Christian country.

It does, however, have a Christian heritage. Far from meaning that everyone must be Christian, it means all are permitted religious freedom, something that Christians fought long and hard to achieve.

If that heritage meant brain washing little children into rejecting their own heritage it would be a very bad thing, But Christmas is not a time of religious aggression but one of peace …

Is that such a terrible thing?

Any recognition of peace is obviously a good thing. What I always find irritating is the attitude that we MUST only wish people Merry Christmas, that it is a Christian holiday ONLY. Many religious traditions have a mid winter festival and wishing someone well in neutral terms (Happy Holidays), Jewish terms (Happy Hannukah), Wiccan terms (Happy Solstice), Norse terms (Happy Yule) or Christian terms (Happy Chrismas) or any one of many more is still a wish of peace. Personally, I am happy to receive any of them.
Merry Christmas... It is the Christmas Holidays, If you do not want to Celebrate then do not, But do not try to take my Christmas from me. Merry Christmas to you all.
Happy Hanukkah - December 15th to 23 ...

Merry Orthodox Christmas - January 7
and next we will have sugarless sugar
alcohol less alcohol...
and then why not have the hotels put bunk beds in the bridal suite?
If Rafe hadnt brought this subject up, I suspect that we would have gone through Christmas without even thinking about it.

This is a non-starter, surely we can find better things to discuss. Goodnight Rafe, see you next year.
