A big rally  is being planned for the 9th of December.  The Northern Women's Forum is hosting its fourth annual Chili Blanket event

The rally is to protest cuts to welfare. The  Northern Women's Forum says  those who have applied for financial assitance have been up against delays, unfair barriers,  and "ultimately discouraged from any hope of receiving the assistance they require."

According to the group, the number of applicants who have received welfare assistance since 2002 has dropped by 40%.  They say the reduction is not because people are  "successfully exiting the welfare system"  rather, they say there are so many barriers to qualifying for welfare that although people may need the help, they are being refused benefits.

The rally is set to take place outside the Prince George Courthouse from noon to 2:00 on the 9th .

While the Northern Women's Forum will be  serving up hot chili and hot chocolate during the rally, they will also  use the event to collect blankets and warm winter wear for those in need.
