Day 1 of Junior Short Track Nationals

In a day jammed with speed skating races Nicolas Bean of Ontario prevented a Quebec sweep of the entire podium placing in the men and women A races at the Canadian Junior Short Track Championship in Prince George.

Bean finished second to Maxime Fortin of Quebec in the 500 metres race. Vincent Andre captured gold in the Quebec dominated 1500 metres race.

In the junior women A races, Valerie Lambert of Quebec finished second to teammate Valerie Maltais in the 1500 metres before topping the Quebec sweep of the women’s 500 metres. One woman and three men will qualify from the junior nationals for the Canadian team set to compete in February at the World Junior Short Track Championships in the Czech Republic.
