While there were no serious injuries it looked like bumper cars at the intersection of Highway 16 and Westgate shortly before five yesterday.
A pick up heading east on 16, while another pick up heading west on 16 and making a turn onto Westgate. Then add in a small compact car stopped on Westgate Ave at the red light. The compact was getting ready to turn onto 16.
As the light was changing on the highway, the eastbound pickup collided with the other truck making a turn into Westgate. The two trucks bounced off one another and then one collided with the car stopped on Westgate making the turn onto 16. The collision resulted in the small car catching fire. The good news was that the Fire Station is right across the street and firefighters were able to put the blaze out in short order. No one was seriously injured from either the crash or the fire.
Three checkpoints were set up for another night of the Drinking Driving Counter Attack. Several thousand vehciles were checked resulting in four drivers being suspended from driving for 24 hours.  One other driver was arrested for obstruction after he provided a false name to officers and was later found to be a vehicle impound candidate. His vehicle was towed from the check stop and will be impounded for thirty days. This was the second road check in as many nights which resulted in impaired drivers being suspended.
