The Northern Medical Trust has been in existance since 2003.  Since that time, the Trust has raised $1.7 million dollars from various sources in the community.  That is short of the $2 million dollars the City of Prince George had committed to  raising for the Trust.

Chairman Tim Currie requested the City consider donating the last $300 thousand dollars,  spread over a couple of years to meet the  full committment.  Councilor Don Bassermann introduced a motion  calling for the matter to be put into the budget process, that motion was unanimously approved.

Currie also asked the City to help in some sort of official recognition for those who have raised these funds. Mayor Kinsley says certainly the Committee should be officially recognized in some way.

The Trust is trying to raise $6 million dollars throughout the North, to help Northern Medical program students train in the region.

There are currently 72 students in the  program with another 24 to  arrive in the New Year.

The funds will be used to help the students travel to rural areas for their training.
