Firemen have evacuated the Coast Inn Of the North after power went out in the down town and the hotel attempted to activate their back up power generator.
Shortly after the generator was turned on , a billow of smoke was seen coming from the roof and as an emergency precaution the hotel was evacuated to the main floor.
A short time later however firemen were able to determine that the billow of smoke was in fact the diesel generator kicking on creating a false alarm.
Meantime police say there has been no vehicle hitting the main power line knocking out power to the down town and they as yet do not know what has thrown power off in the city centerPrevious Story - Next Story

The public does get fed up with these outages, and it is commonly during the winter months, which makes it unbearable for people whose homes do not function in any manner without power-and those on wells with a pumping system do not even have water.
I wonder at the attitude of the people operating the Inn of the North. What an inconvenience this has created for them, their guests, and employees responsible for the dining room, coffee shop, etc. Many other businesses are also affected, and hundreds of homeowners. I, for one, am disgusted, and can forsee future problems if this is an example of adequate service.
It is time B C Hydro had a major overhaul, and give straight up answers for this service constantly being disrupted.
Maybe it would help if people demanded compensation for the lack of service, and only paid a portion of their billing.
It inevitably creates a danger on the roads as well that are traffic light controlled.
Time to demand better service, and now!
