The Manager of Business Development, for DuPont Canada, speaking to the Bioenergy Conference being held in Prince George says , "We are not interested in becoming a public utility “. Harvey Vowels was speaking to the group of political and First Nations leaders from across the central part of the province.
Vowels says "DuPont recognizes that there is 200 Million tonnes of forest residue and a further 60 million tonnes of agriculture waste that could used as a substitute for 20% of the current fossil fuel usage."
His company, he said , is interested in heat and energy, transportation fuels , and chemicals.
In the future he said , "Whole mills could be switched into becoming Bio Fuel refineries. You would put in pulp and produce some other chemicals other than paper. Just as Canola Oil is becoming more important, forest residue could do the same thing."
DuPont held a closed meeting with a selected group to outline its proposals.
One First Nations Leader attending the conference said, "DuPont may have a good proposal, but why should we let them make all the money, we have are own forests, we have our own wood fiber, and we sure as hell could go to the open market to find the money to build a facility without them taking the profit."Previous Story - Next Story
