Prince George City Council will begin its first meeting of the year with a “State of the City” address by Mayor Colin Kinsley.
After that, Council will head into two public hearings.
One concerns a zoning change to allow for a variance in density for a three storey building planned for 7th Avenue.  There are two letters of concern from neighbours in the area.
The other public hearing is for a cement batch plant in the Carter light industrial area.  That proposal calls for a variance to allow for a taller than currently permitted silo for cement storage.  The Planning department says the applicant is aware cement products can only be stored on the site, and there is to be no manufacturing of such products.
Also before Council, Prince George RCMP Detachment Superintendent Del Chambers and North District Chief Superintendent Barry Clark .  They will update Council on progress made over the past year on police programs.  Their  will also be a power point presentation from the Community Policing office.
There will also be a presentation on the  Ospika South Neighbourhood Plan.  Staff are  recommending the neighbourhood plan be adopted as presented.  That  plan calls for  the first phase of development to  add enough housing for as many as 5,800 people.
There will be  details released on the City's  bid for the  western summer games for 2011.
There will also be an application for a liquor license for the site on Brunswick Street that used to be home to the Schnitzel House, then the Buffalo Brewing Company, and a couple of incarnations since then.  This license would be a transfer of the license  that was in place for  Shooters in Parkwood Place.

The sooner they get that Ospika South connector to the highway in the better.
Sounds like a state of the "Union Address" by Presdint Kinsley. I guess BS baffles brains.

Cheers
This is a long term subdivison plan filling in the gap between Westgate and Southgate. For the section of proposed Ospika which lies south of HWY 16 to be built, the gravel pits would first have to be shut down or limited. Then again, we might want to have a few residences built around the pits and have some local asphalt plants built for a decade or two. :-)

You might be speaking about the section of Ospika between Tyner and HWY 16.

Whether you are or not, I would hope that would be completed within the short term (2 to 3 years) soon to connect with Marleau. The present sytem of access to the "BSH -box store heaven" area is substandard. The connection of Ospika across HWY 16 should improve that so that one is not forced onto Domano or Westgate in order to exit BSH to the west.

The other connection which I hope will be finished soon is Foothills south to Ferry west.
Owl I was talking about the Tyner to HWY 16 connector. Its been sittting there half finished for going on two decades now. Its only a two block peice of pavement they need and it would make a huge difference for those heading out to Parkridge Heights on a regular basis. Currently you have to go down a big hill to the third busiest intersection in Northern BC and then climb all the way back up that big hill. It makes no sense to me.

South of HWY 16 will have to wait till next year, as KODE has no plans of moving from their gravel pit until next summer at the earliest from what I've heard. The pit has been fully mined so that is a plus, but I heard it was going to be developed for residential, and tennis courts, plus a park or something along those lines. It is surounded by homes so I don't think Ospika would connect through there, but rather up the highway a bit further.
Chadermando,
I agree with your assesment of what the extension would do, but....

It may only be a block or two of pavement, but the services that would have to be put under or beside that pavement have to be built to a capacity for the surrounding areas. I am not a city engineer or planner, but I suspect it you would need a crystal ball to determine what the capacity of those line should be.
I would put the services under one side of the Blvd and pave the other side for now? Two lanes would be enough for me.
The other connection which I hope will be finished soon is Foothills south to Ferry west.

I sure hope your wrong Owl. It cost 3 million to install a new water main from 15th to Ferry and took all last summer to do the job. After freeze up they had to go back and repair the leaks because of poor joints. And they arent finished yet.

Foothills is underused as it is. Why would it change if the connection to Fery is completed. And its almost inmmy backyard. You know NIMBY.

Cheers
