Police are saying stay off the roads in Northern BC as a storm hits the area. Some travellers have been stranded in drifts along the highways in the region ,and crews are attempting to reach them.

Heavy snow and gusting winds overnight are affecting travel on roads in the North
East of British Columbia, including Braden Road between the Hart Highway and the Alaska
Highway near Dawson Creek stranding a number of motorists on that road.

Emergency crews, RCMP and highway maintenance crews are currently working to reach
motorists in the area.  Those individuals stranded by the snow should remain in their vehicles
until emergency crews can reach them and do the following:

* Periodically run your vehicle to stay warm.

* Keep a window slightly open to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning

* If you have a cell phone, call 911 or 1 800-461-9111 to let personnel know where you are, how
many people are with you and what your situation is.

Funny how the federal government has no helicopters available for Northern BC in a crisis when dozens of lives are at stake in minus 30 degree weather. If Jay Hill ever becomes defense minister I sure hope he remembers his constituents then.
